The Evolution of a Photographer...

I wish you the warmest welcome to my website! I am the one and only Shelika L. McFarland-Izlar, uniquely self-crafted photographer who was born and raised in South Carolina. As a child, I was always fascinated with having my picture taken and even more so with the piece of equipment being used to take my pictures! Yep, cameras were so amazing to me. The entire process left me in awe every single time. I'll never forget when my parents gifted me with my first and only (until December 2022) Polaroid instant camera! I still have it to this day, almost 30 years later! I had to have been the proudest child on the planet and no other gift ever seemed to compare. Little did I know, that was just the beginning of my lengthy line of cameras from brands of all types. My favorite, thus far, has to be a Canon-the gift that keeps on giving for me! Before I snap that button, the story behind the image it will produce has already been created in my mind. A picture isn't just an image for me, there are so many words, emotions, and thoughts and feelings that can be described just by gazing at it! Even a certain smile, the slant of the eyes, the position of the hands, the tilt of the head, it all conveys a message or even a story... I've always had a passion for pictures and once I graduated college and excelled in my first dream field for 5 consecutive years, I decided it was time to give this passion for cameras and pictures some fire and fun, and thus blossomed Portraits by Shelika, LLC!
